Abstract: Using X-ray diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM),the structure self assembly and langmuir-blodgett membrane of substituted phthalocyanine and porphyrin were investigated. It is demonstrated that these molecules adsorb with its molecular plane parallel to the substrate surface on graphite, but perpendicular to the surface of Si(111) and glass. These results indicate these molecules can form organic thin films with different structure on substrate which have different polarity.
